The PRAXIS Lab Collective

We are a collective of researchers conducting activist-informed research, committed to praxis; the enactment and unity of creativity, theory, inquiry, and reflexivity for social change

Theory. The use of critical and embodied theories to make sense of and challenge our culturally-situated assumptions about the research we do, and how we show up in the world.

Inquiry. Employing artful methods in knowing, to engage in research, action, and reflection, committed to exposing and deconstructing systems of power.

Social Change. The interrelations within human interaction that transform cultural and social institutions over time, having a profound impact of society.

Creativity.Art, creativity, and aesthetics in research design is less centered on the physical manifestation of an object, and more about the process of creation- the development of an experience, where the creator and audience can enter a dialectic of understanding together. The task of our collective is to "restore continuity between the refined and intensified forms of experience that are works of art and the everyday events, doings, and sufferings that are universally recognized to constitute experience" to work with our participants and with ourselves in a holistic, centered, and justice oriented way (Dewey, 2006, .p. 3).

"Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world, and with each other"

Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed
